CAMBODIACambodia is located in Southeast Asia between Thailand and Vietnam and is a little smaller than the state of Oklahoma. Population: 14 Million Language: Khmer Ethnic Groups: Khmer (90%), Vietnamese (5%), Chinese (1%) Per Capita Income: $2,700 (2006) Capital: Phnom Penh Religion: 83% Buddhist, 1.9% Christian Government: Cambodia, known also as Kampuchea, is a democracy under a constitutional monarchy. History: From 1975-1979, the country underwent genocide where almost one half of the country’s population was exterminated under the Khmer Rouge led by Pol Pot. Emotional and physical scars still abound today. Land mines still exist throughout the country. Just over the last eight years Cambodia has experienced peace. Many NGOs (non-government organizations) are helping this country to recover from its terrible past. Sex trade is destroying the moral fiber of this country, while many of the estimated 50,000 prostitutes are children. Many churches are being planted as Cambodia is considered by many as a harvest field for Christ. While many people are making decisions for Christ through evangelistic outreach, there is a great need for discipleship and the training of pastors for the emerging churches. The greatest need for the church in Cambodia is leadership training. Without trained leaders, churches will struggle and new believers will not receive the care and discipleship they need. CCI Ministry in Cambodia: CCI began working in Cambodia in 2006 and now works in partnership with several national church groups in training pastors throughout the country. Pray for God to raise up a national director to lead the ministry here. For project needs, please contact us at info@crossingculturesint.org |
